“1I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
2I will glory in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together.”
Psalm 34:1-3
David wrote Psalm 34 in response to his escape from the Philistine King Achish recorded for us in 1 Samuel 21:10-15, brought about through David acting insane. And he was overwhelmed by God’s grace to save him. It’s not just an account of raw data or facts of the escape: indeed there is nothing in the Psalm that tells the details of his escape. No, Psalm 34 is a poem of rejoicing, celebration and gladness. It comes from David’s heart, not just his head. His cry, yearning, desire and joy is palpable! Like many of the Psalms.
