What to Expect

At HBC we believe the Lord desires us to worship Him as we sing, listen, pray, and engage with him as we meet, and then as we obey Him in our lives at all other times. Our desire is that our meetings reflect a ‘dignified informality’ as we reflect not only our Aussie culture around us, but also the truth that the Lord Jesus died on a Cross to bring us forgiveness for our rebellion against our Creator God and opened up the way for us to come to God confidently yet with reverence. The Lord Jesus calls us both his friends and followers. God is both our Master and our Father.

At HBC we believe God has revealed Himself in the clearest way through the Lord Jesus. So, we seek to know God through the Lord Jesus, crying out for Him to reveal Himself to us by the Holy Spirit as we meet, and as we open His Word, the Bible each week. We believe that it’s only with the Holy Spirit’s help that we can understand God and His Word, and so we seek to give the Holy Spirit as much space as possible to guide us in our teaching and worship.

Our singing is based in a contemporary music style but also include hymns and times of reflection with a quiet musical accompaniment at times. Our teaching comes as we open the Bible and have it explained with an expectation that our lives will continually be challenged to change as we submit ourselves to God as He speaks to us. This means our preachers preach with the aim of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable, thus helping all struggle well with life under Jesus.

What to Expect

We believe it’s important to remember and engage with the Lord Jesus in the way He commanded us to do so, and so once a month on Sunday mornings and Friday nights, we celebrate communion together. We do this to remember the Lord Jesus’ death on the cross, and his resurrection to new life thus calling us to follow Him in His strength. We pray He would meet us as we do encouraging us in this life and following Him. We also baptise people of all ages who have made that step of following the Lord Jesus in our gatherings as the Lord leads them and the opportunity arises.

At HBC we believe we really do need each other. We believe we are all gifts to one another on our journey of seeking out God and following Him - even those we don’t know, disagree with or naturally don’t get on with!! We hope our commitment to loving each other this way means when you visit HBC you are struck with a warm welcome from people at the door and right through until you leave after a coffee or meal depending on when you visit us. To help with this, we have a Newcomers Morning tea on the first Sunday of the month after our 930 service.?

Matt's Blog

By this all men will know

This is blog 8 in a series on the new multi-site Baptist church on the northern Gold Coast. My previous blogs have been, mostly, about “us” as church and the impact the multi-site structure might have on those in the church. However, in our particular example, although acutely aware of the impact the multi-site model will have on the church, our reason for proceeding has been more about “out there” than “in here”! We have consistently reminded both churches that proceeding down this line is about positioning ourselves under God’s leadership and direction to be in the best place to plant more churches around the northern Gold Coast.... "Anxiety"

This emotion is a companion to most of us. At times it can drag a person to the pits of despair and sometimes it can keep us there. I know that I have to deal with it regularly. While this issue can fill books there are probably two broad types of anxiety. Firstly, there is the anxiety of an unknown situation where you are stepping out into unfamiliar territory such as going onto a stage in front of many people or going on a journey into unknown territory. This anxiety is often linked to our flight or fight instincts. Secondly there is our anxiety about everything else. Our relationships, our job, our ability to survive in this world, our home and so on.... Continue Reading »
